Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! It has been twenty six years since Jo Dee Messina released her song “Heads Carolina, Tails California” to the radio. The song made it to number two on the country charts, but it never made it to the number one spot. It may sound crazy but it is still possible for that to happen twenty six years later. It could happen thanks to Cole Swindell and his song “She Had Me at Heads Carolina,” which was released to the radio on June 20. In the beginning of Cole’s song he samples Jo Dee Messina’s song, which means if Cole’s song goes number one, Jo Dee Messina will finally have the number one she never got twenty six years ago. It seems pretty likely that it will happen because pretty much all of Cole’s singles have gone number one, and I think people like how creative and different this song is.

This happened a couple years ago when Sam Hunt sampled Webb Pierce’s song “There Stands the Glass” in his song “Hard to Forget.” Sadly Webb Pierce died in 1991, so he wasn’t here to see it happen, but I’m sure he would have loved it.

Maybe sampling older songs will become a new trend in country music, I’m not sure. All I know is it’s pretty cool when artists sing songs like these.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. I’ll be back soon with a new blog! I hope you have a nice Fourth of July tomorrow!
