Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! Today I am going to help get you in the Christmas spirit by counting down my top five favorite non traditional Christmas songs.

The song at number five on the list is “Country Christmas” by Loretta Lynn. This is just a simple song about celebrating Christmas in the country. I’m sure a lot of people can relate to this song. Loretta had other Christmas songs that were really good also.

The song at number four on the list is “Christmas Cookies” by George Strait. This song is just simply about him eating Christmas cookies his wife is baking. Last year Lainey Wilson released a version of this song. In Lainey’s version, she is the one baking the Christmas cookies. Whether you listen to George or Lainey, this song will instantly put you in a holiday mood.

The song at number three on the list is “If We Make it Through December” by Merle Haggard. This song was later covered by Alan Jackson and most recently by Cody Johnson. This song was inspired when Merle's guitarist had been through multiple divorces. When Merle asked him how he felt about going through a divorce during the holiday season, his response was “If we just make it through December.” Merle used that line to tell a story of a man who lost his job and was unable to provide his child with anything for Christmas. This song is a reminder that not everybody’s Christmas is as happy as yours, which is why Christmas is a great time to give to those in need.

The song at number two on the list is “Hard Candy Christmas” by Dolly Parton. This song has been covered a couple different times, most recently by Caylee Hammack. This song refers back to a time when families who couldn’t afford much gave their children hard candy for Christmas. It could’ve been anything from candy canes to lollipops. In this song, hard candy is used as a metaphor that reminds us that life is often difficult, but it can also be sweet.

The song at number one on the list is “Christmas in Heaven” by Scotty McCreery. Scotty released this song when he was only 19 years old. He was writing a song called “Christmas in Heaven” about his grandfather who passed away while Scotty was getting ready to release his Christmas album. He received a song with the same title and decided to record that one instead. I’m sure everyone can relate to this song.
