Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! Lainey Wilson released her new album “Whirlwind” this past Friday. I don’t think there is a bad song on the album. Some of my favorites include “Counting Chickens” and “Keep Up With Jones.” There is one song, however, that I think stands out from the rest. That song is “Whiskey Colored Crayon.”
This song tells the story of a kindergarten class drawing pictures of their homes. One little boy draws his house and his entire family except for his dad. He then raises his hand and tells the teacher he can’t draw his daddy because he doesn’t have a whiskey colored crayon. The teacher then calls the boy’s mom to tell her what happened in class that day, and it makes her a mess.
The song jumps seven years in the future in the end and talks about how the boy’s dad has been sober for seven years because of the picture the boy drew back in kindergarten.
I love how this song has a happy ending. Not all country songs have a happy ending, but I like how this one gives hope to alcoholics that they can get sober if they want to.
I would definitely recommend listening to “Whirlwind.” Thanks for reading. I’ll be back soon!
