Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! Happy Easter everybody! This is the final part of my women’s history month project. This part is all about ladies from the 1990s.

The first lady I’ll talk about is Trisha Yearwood. Trisha released her debut album in 1991. Its lead single “She’s in Love With the Boy” went number one. Trisha went out on tour as Garth Brooks’ opening act, which helped her gain more fans. She later married Garth in 2005, and they have been a power couple ever since.

The next lady is Wynonna. After The Judds’ career ended, Wynonna began her solo career. In 1992, she released her debut album, which sold 1,000,000 copies. Throughout the 90s and 2000s, she earned nearly a dozen top ten hits.

Martina McBride is the next lady I’ll talk about. Martina began performing in her family’s band when she was seven. In 1990, she moved to Nashville with her husband John. John started working as a sound engineer and eventually became Garth Brooks’ production manager. Martina began selling t-shirts for Garth while she was working on demos. She released her debut single “The Time Has Come” in 1992.

The next artist I’m going to talk about is Shania Twain. Shania began singing when she was three, playing guitar when she was eight, and writing songs when she was ten. Shania decided to try to make a go of her singing career when she was 18. She found work, but had to also work some odd jobs to make enough to support herself. She released her debut album in 1993, but it wasn’t until her follow-up album “The Woman in Me” that she found success.

The next artist is Faith Hill. By age 16, Faith started her own country band that played at many fairs and rodeos. A couple of years after graduating from high school, she moved to Nashville. Faith worked as a receptionist and later got a job packaging merchandise for Reba McEntire. She released her debut single “Wild One” in 1993, and it stayed at number one for four weeks.

Terri Clark is the next lady. While in high school, Terri worked at a local Chinese restaurant to save money to move to Nashville. After she graduated, she moved to Nashville and began performing at “Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge.” In 1995, she released her debut single, “Better Things to Do,” which went to number three. Terri is the only Canadian female member of the Grand Ole Opry.

The next artist is Deana Carter. Deana is the daughter of Nashville studio guitarist Fred Carter Jr., who played for various big name artists. When Deana was 17, she tried to land a record contract. After no success, she left music and began studying nursing. After graduating, she decided to pursue music again. She released her debut single in 1995, and a year later she had her first number one with “Strawberry Wine.”

Jo Dee Messina is the next artist. By age 16, Jo Dee began performing at local clubs. She moved to Nashville when she was 19 and began singing for prize money in talent competitions. She released her debut single in 1996. Two years later, she earned her first number one with “Bye Bye.”

LeAnn Rimes is the next lady. LeAnn won her first talent competition when she was only five years old. At age eight, she was a two-week champion on “Star Search” and when she was 11 she recorded her first album. Critics commented when she was 14 that she didn’t look or act her 14 since she has been in the music business since she was about seven years old. Her debut single “Blue” became a hit in 1996.

The next lady is Sara Evans. Sara started performing in her family’s band when she was four and recorded in Nashville a few years later. She later performed in another band who opened for Willie Nelson and Tim McGraw. She released her debut single “True Lies” in 1997.

The Chicks are the only band in this project. The Chicks (originally called The Dixie Chicks) were made up of sisters Martie and Emily along with fellow musicians Laura and Robin. In 1992, Robin left the group and Laura left shortly after. Natalie Maines then joined the group as the lead singer. They released their debut single in 1997.

The last artist is Lee Ann Womack. Lee Ann’s dad often took her to work with him when she was a kid. He worked as a disc jockey at a radio station, so Lee Ann loved going with him so she could help pick out records to play on the air. By 1990, She moved to Nashville, where she became a wife and a mother. She released her debut single “Never Again, Again” in 1997, and it reached number 23 on the charts.

Thanks for reading. Please let me know in the comments what your thoughts are on this project. I’ll be back soon!
