Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! The “Country Music 4 Ever Country Legend Highlight” artist of the month is Conway Twitty. Conway made his debut in country music in 1966, and he has earned 55 number one songs throughout his country music career. He has sold more than 50 million records.

He was born Harold Lloyd Jenkins on September 1, 1933, in Friars Point, Mississippi. He was given his first guitar when he was four years old, and he formed his first band when he was ten. Music and baseball were his two passions. He was offered a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies after high school. He thought his future was decided when he received the offer from the Phillies. However, he ended up joining the U.S. Army.

After Conway was released from the army in the mid-1950s, a young man named Elvis was becoming very popular, which made Conway go to Memphis, Tennessee to follow his musical dreams. He eventually signed a record deal and earned his first rock n roll number one, “It's Only Make Believe.”

After eight years of a rock n roll career, Conway decided it was time to go country, which was something he always wanted to do. After 55 country number ones, I'd say it was the right decision. Conway will always be remembered as one of the greatest country singers of all time.

Throughout the month, I will be posting fun facts about Conway on Facebook and Reddit, so stay tuned for that.

Thanks for reading. I'll be back soon!
