Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! Today I am going to talk about a song I heard recently that I instantly liked. The song is called “Independent With You” by Kylie Morgan. Before I start talking about the song I am going to tell you a little about Kylie.

 

Kylie is an Oklahoma native who began writing songs when she was ten years old. When she was in eighth grade, she wrote a song called “My Miracle” about her friend’s sister who was battling cancer. Kylie was invited to sing the song at local “Relay For Life” events. She sold CDs of the song at these events and she donated all the proceeds to the “American Cancer Society.” That was the moment she realized she could change lives with music. Ever since then she knew she would have a career in music.

 

Now that you know a little bit about her, let’s talk about this song.

 

“Independent With You” is a song she debuted at the “Ryman Auditorium” on February 24 of last year. She wrote this song as she was falling in love with her husband. The song is about her not wanting to give up her dreams and settle down. She knew she wanted to be with her husband, but she didn’t want their relationship to change the life she already had. As she was thinking about the feelings she had about falling in love, she ended up writing this song. In the chorus of the song she sings “Can I stand on my own two feet while you hold my hand? Can I be my own woman with you as my man? Can I let you in without changing who I am? Do I have to choose? Can I still be independent with you?”

 

I think this song has such a powerful message. A lot of people end up in relationships that change who they really are. Luckily, Kylie found the right man for her. She recently married former “The Voice” contestant, Jay Allen.
