Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! Country music has always been known to make a statement. Female artists have especially never been afraid of singing about things that aren’t normally discussed in songs. Loretta Lynn was known for giving a voice to women who were too afraid to talk about a lot of different things.

Ten years ago, a new female duo released their debut single that went straight to number one. That duo was Maddie and Tae and the song was “Girl in a Country Song.”

“Girl in a Country Song” was released right in the middle of the “Bro Country” era of country music, which was a time when women weren’t respected in country music. It seemed like every song men put out was about women wearing painted on cut off jeans, sometimes even being referred to as pretty little things.

Maddie and Tae decided it was time for women to be given a voice about what was happening in country music at the time.

It is a very creative song that references many popular “Bro Country” songs, such as “Get Me Some of That” by Thomas Rhett and “My Kinda Party” by Jason Aldean.

When “Girl in a Country Song” first came out, Maddie and Tae made it clear this was just a fun, light-hearted song, and they weren’t trying to be mean to any of the artists mentioned in the song. I don’t know if the men whose songs were mentioned in this song found the humor in it, but a lot of people must’ve because it went all the way to number one.

Thanks for reading. I’ll be back soon!
