Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! If you know me, you know I love sad country songs. And the other day I was listening to what I think is the saddest country song I’ve ever heard. The song was “The Little Girl” by John Michael Montgomery. This song is about a little girl whose parents drink and do drugs. One night when her dad got drunk, he killed himself and the little girls mom.  I’m sure if you’ve never heard this song before, you’re probably thinking there are a lot of country songs about people who get killed. That is true, but the last verse of this song makes it different from all other country songs out there.

The last verse is after the little girl is taken to a new family that loves her. He sings “Her first day of Sunday school, the teacher walks in. And a small little girl stared at a picture of Him. She said I know that man up there on that cross. I don’t know His name, but I know He got off. Cause He was there in my old house, and held me close by His side, as I hid there behind our couch, the night that my parents died.” I don’t know that I’ve ever heard a better way to end a song. I’m not here to preach to you, but I think more people should listen to this song because of the message behind it. Like I said, I’m not here to preach to you, so please go check out this song if you haven’t already.

I don’t think this song is remembered as much as some of his other songs like “I Swear” or “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident,)” but in my opinion it is one of his best songs.

Thanks for reading, I’ll be back soon!
