Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! Have you noticed how artists who ruled the 2010s are starting to get less radio airplay? Obviously, as artists get older, the radio loses interest in them because there are so many younger artists they would rather play.
Carrie Underwood was one of the top female artists of the 2010s, but recently her songs have not been charting too well. In fact, she hasn’t had a solo number one song since “Church Bells” in 2016. She was 32 at the time, which is about the average age that women stop getting airplay on country radio.
Keith Urban was another huge name in the 2010s. He had many number one songs and won some major awards, but he is starting to get less and less airplay the older he gets. Just like Carrie, Keith hasn’t had a number one song since 2016 with “Blue Ain’t Your Color.” He was 48 at the time of that number one.
Kenny Chesney has been one of the biggest names in country music for a very long time, but especially in the 2010s. Recently, though, you don’t hear as much from him on the radio. His most recent number one was in 2020 with “Here and Now.” It’s more recent than the other two, but it’s still been four years. He was 47 at the time of that number one.
Miranda Lambert was another one of the most popular female artists of the 2010s. She won many awards during that decade and had a lot of chart success. Her last number one song was in 2019 with “Bluebird.” She was 32 at the time, which is the same as Carrie.
This proves that men usually get more time having number ones than women do. In this case, it could be 15 or 16 more years. Regardless of gender, though, every artist’s number one songs comes to an end. Some are sooner than others, but the radio needs to make room for new artists.
Thanks for reading. I’ll be back soon!
