Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! On February 2 the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the nominees for the class of 2022 members. Among the nominees was Dolly Parton, who initially seemed excited about being nominated but a little over a month later she announced on instagram that she must respectfully bow out. In her statement she explained that she didn’t feel like she had earned the right to be nominated and she didn’t want the votes to be split because of her. By the time she announced this it was too late, because the ballots had already been mailed, and she was among the ones chosen to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

There has been a lot of debate over whether Dolly should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, because she is not a rock singer, so today I am going to share with you what my thoughts are.

After doing a little research I found out Dolly only had one number one song and one other top ten song on the Adult Contemporary charts (which was the closest genre to rock and roll she has ever recorded). The two songs were “Here You Come Again” and “9 to 5.” In my opinion you shouldn’t be able to qualify as a member of a hall of fame because of two songs. I feel if you are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame you should spend either your whole career or most of your career singing rock music. In a case like this one Dolly didn’t even think she had done enough to deserve the honor, so I think they should have chosen someone else who actually sang rock and roll. I think one of the reasons for Dolly being chosen for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is because Whitney Houston recorded Dolly’s song “I Will Always Love You.” I don’t think she should be inducted because of that song either, because it was a pop song not a rock song. I know pop and rock music have kind of become one in the same in recent years but I still don’t think that one song should have earned Dolly a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I would love to hear your opinion on this, if you think Dolly should be inducted or if you think she should just remain one of country music’s queens. I’ll be back soon with a new blog!
