Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! Something I noticed recently is that artists who are currently on the charts seem to be a bit older than you would expect. The average age of artists currently on the Mediabase country chart is 37.3 years old. Considering it seems like once an artist reaches the age of 40 or 45 the radio stops playing them. Of course there are exceptions like Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw, but 37 years old seems kind of old to be the average age.

Looking back 10 years ago, the average age of artists who had number one songs in 2015 had an average age of 36 years old. So it seems to be holding steady. The further back you go, however, the average age of artists becomes younger.

In 2005, the average age of artists who had number one songs was 35.8 years old. Ten years prior to that, in 1995, the average age was 32.8 years old. So you can see how the average age keeps getting higher through the years.

Some artists who are still popular now have been around for 20 to 30 years, but for the most part, it is a lot of different artists who come and go through the years.

Many people move to Nashville right out of high school or college, hoping to make it big. However, Nashville is known as the “Ten Year Town,” meaning it takes ten years to make it big. So, I guess it makes sense that artists are in their late twenties and early thirties when they finally start having hits.

Thanks for reading. I’ll be back soon!
