Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! I made a change to the “Country Music 4 Ever Country Legend Highlight.” Instead of posting it at the end of each month, I am going to start posting it at the beginning of each month because it makes more sense to do it that way. So, the legend that is being highlighted this month is Don Williams. Don made his debut in country music in 1973, and he had 21 number one songs.

Don was born on May 27, 1939, in Floydada, Texas. His mom taught him how to play the guitar and as a teenager he performed in various country, folk, and rock & roll bands.

He first found success in a folk-pop band. The group had six charting records during 1966 and 1967, but they broke up in 1969. Don tried several nonmusical jobs before moving to Nashville to pursue music again. He got signed to a music publishing company as a writer. Soon after, he released his debut album, which had several charting singles.

Don’s first number one came in 1974 with his song “I Wouldn’t Want to Live if You Didn’t Love Me.” He had many other hits after that one.

Even though he isn’t remembered as well as other country stars, Don was definitely a country music legend.

Throughout the month, I will post some fun facts about Don on Facebook. Thanks for reading. I’ll be back soon!
