Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! Today I want to talk about my favorite Miranda Lambert song, “The House That Built Me.” This song was written by Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin. After writing this song off and on for seven years, they finished it and sent it to Scott Hendricks, who had a good track record of finding hits in Nashville. Scott included it on a CD of potential songs for his client, Blake Shelton. Blake was dating Miranda at the time. When Miranda heard this song for the first time she fell in love with it, so Blake let her record it. It became her first number one song.

“The House That Built Me” is about Miranda going back to her childhood home and reliving memories from her childhood. She sings about doing homework and learning to play guitar in her bedroom. She also sings about her favorite dog, who is buried in the yard. She goes on to sing about her mom cutting out pictures from magazines of what she wanted the house to look like, and her dad building the house her mom wanted. Even though Miranda didn’t write this song, she said it feels like she could’ve written it.

Miranda released her debut single in 2001, but like I said in the beginning, she never had a number one song until “The House That Built Me” in 2010. I think there is a good reason for this being her first number one. I’m not saying she didn’t have any good songs prior to this one because she did, but she has never released another song quite like this one. The lyrics of this song paint a picture in your mind. It also has a really nice sound. I think this song will go on to be a classic.

Thanks for reading. Let me know what you think. I’ll be back soon!
