Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! Thanks to artificial intelligence, we now have a new song by Randy Travis. On Friday, his new song “Where That Came From” was released, which was a surprise for a lot of people.

In 2013, Randy suffered a stroke that has since made him unable to talk and sing. New Randy Travis music music seemed like it would be impossible, but thanks to AI it is now possible.

The process of giving Randy his voice back through AI began with his producer Kyle Lehning crafting a song using Randy’s past audio tracks as a starting point. With the help of another singer’s voice, an AI program overlaid Randy’s voice on the new recording. Kyle then molded the AI vocal into a song that felt authentic to Randy.

This song has caused some controversy because Randy didn’t actually go into the studio to record this song, so it’s not right to say it’s his song. 

I, personally, don’t like the idea of AI in the music business for reasons I will discuss in a future post. I do however think it’s a good song, but just knowing it’s not truely Randy just feels a little wrong.

I wouldn’t be surprised if artists who have passed away would suddenly have new music with the help of AI. We could have new music by artists like Hank Williams and Patsy Cline decades after they passed away thanks to AI.
