Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! Today I want to talk about one of the most popular songs in country music. Actually thanks to Whitney Houston it was a huge pop song also. I’m sure you figured out by now the song I’m talking about is “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton. This song has been on many lists of the best country love songs, and I guess in a way it is a love song, but Dolly actually wrote this song for Porter Wagoner.

Dolly agreed to star on Porter’s tv show, “The Porter Wagoner Show” for five years. After the five years, she decided it was time to move on and start a career of her own. Porter wasn’t ready to see her go, and they started arguing about her decision to leave. Dolly decided to write a song for Porter explaining why she was leaving his show. The song she wrote was “I Will Always Love You.” Porter loved the song and decided it was okay for her to leave his show as long as he could produce the album she was putting “I Will Always Love You” on. She agreed to this deal and she finally left his show.

Dolly says “I Will Always Love You” represents her making it clear to Porter how much she cared about him and appreciated him, even though it was time for her to leave his show.

The lyrics of this song are so simple, but they mean so much. This song is just simply about not wanting to stand in someone’s way, and even though you still love them you know it is best for you to leave them. Like I said, it is a simple song, but it is such a beautiful song though.

Thanks for reading, I’ll be back soon!
