Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! Every day as I scroll through Facebook, new headlines pop up about the flooding in Texas. There have now been over a hundred deaths, and there are still many people missing. I can’t even imagine what the families must be going through that lost someone, especially the parents of all the little girls who went away to camp and never came home. It’s a really terrible situation.
The one thing I do know is that music heals. It can’t bring these people back, but it can help people through hard times. One song that comes to mind is Chris Young’s 2019 single “Drowning."
This song was written after Chris unexpectedly lost a close friend of his. The song talks about finding ways to grieve during times like that. The chorus says, “So I’m gonna pull out pictures, ones with you in ‘em. Laugh and cry a little while, reminiscin’. By myself, I can’t help that all I think about is how you were taken way too soon. It ain’t the same here without you. I gotta say, missin’ you comes in waves, and tonight I’m drowning."
Chris debuted this song at the Grand Ole Opry in 2019. However, he was overcome by emotion and had to end the song early. Regardless, the audience fell in love with the song, and Chris received a standing ovation.
Country music never fails to have the perfect song for any occasion, even one like this. Please keep all the families affected by this flood in your prayers. Thanks for reading. I’ll be back soon!
