I’ve talked before about how record labels pay radio stations to play songs by their artists, and if enough money is paid out, their songs will go number one. So, when you turn on your radio and hear the same 10 songs, it’s not because the fans want to hear those songs, it’s because there’s a lot of money wrapped up in those songs.

When you see headlines about a song spending multiple weeks at number one, it’s because a record label paid for that to happen. I’m not saying this is the case for every song, but it is for most of them. This is why it’s more accurate when an artist has the most streamed song, because you know that is 100% the fans that made that happen. Record labels and radio stations have nothing to do with the songs we choose to stream.

I’m going to start something new today called “Fan Favorite Friday.” Each Friday, I will pick a modern country star and I will post a link to their most streamed song on Facebook. These will be fan favorite songs by these artists because fans pick which songs they stream. I think this is a lot more accurate than a number one song on the radio.

Thanks for reading. I’ll have the first “Fan Favorite Friday” post on Facebook later today. I’ll be back soon!
