Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! Today I want to talk about one of my favorite songs right now. Lauren Watkins is one of those artists that it doesn’t matter what song she sings, it will always sound good. Today I want to discuss my favorite song of hers, “Mama, I Made It.”
In this song, she talks about making a mess of the relationship she’s in after having a huge fight, so she calls her mom and tells her all about it, taking full responsibility for everything that went wrong.
In the first verse she sings, “Mama, I’ve been sittin’ on the porch since ten past 3 A.M. and I don’t wanna see what’s waitin’ on me when I walk back in. Mama, I took his Babe Ruth baseball, put it right through the drywall. A couple years worth of picture frame glass up and down our hall. Oh, Mama.”
She then goes on to say that she pushed him to the limit, and she knows it’s all her fault. She then ends the chorus by singing, “Ah, this train’s a wreck, it’s such a mess and Mama, I made it.”
I really love the songwriting in this song. It tells such a simple story, but all the details she includes really add to it. I would recommend listening to her album, “The Heartbroken Record.” There is not a bad song on the album.
Thanks for reading. I’ll be back soon!
