Welcome back to Country Music 4 Ever! On Monday, Maddie & Tae publicly announced they are breaking up after performing together for 15 years. This is not the dramatic kind of breakup many bands go through that results in the members not speaking to each other. This is one of the most friendly breakups country music has ever had. 

Both Maddie and Tae are mothers. Maddie has a two-year-old son, and Tae has a four-year-old daughter and a 13-month-old son. It’s easy to imagine how hard it must be to be away from kids that young while you’re out on the road. That is why Tae has decided to step away from the music business to focus on raising her family. However, Maddie intends to pursue a solo career since her husband is a stay-at-home dad.

It’s no secret women have to work twice as hard in country music to get the respect and recognition they deserve. It is especially hard for moms to be traveling musicians going from town to town and not spending much time at home with their kids.

When most people think of Maddie & Tae, they probably think they are one-hit wonders with their hit “Girl in a Country Song,” but they actually had a lot more chart success than that. They followed up “Girl in a Country Song” with “Fly,” which became a top ten hit, landing at number nine. They then released two more singles that made it into the top 50 before going back to the number one spot with “Die From a Broken Heart.”

Maddie & Tae made history in the relatively short time they released music. They became the first female duo with multiple number one singles and several platinum singles, including “Girl in a Country Song,” “Fly,” “Friends Don’t,” and “Die From a Broken Heart.”

This is not the end for Maddie & Tae. In their statement they said they are not closing the door on a possible album or tour in the future, but for right now raising their babies is the most important thing. Who knows, maybe in five or ten years they will do a reunion tour. We’ll have to wait and see.
